1. Click on an ordinary passport in the online services section
2. Register through the Passport Seva Online Portal. …
3. Login to the Passport Seva Online Portal with the registered Login Id.
4. Click “Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport” link.
5. Fill in the required details in the form and submit.
6. Click the “Pay and Schedule Appointment” link on the “View Saved/Submitted Applications” screen to schedule an appointment.
Online Payment has been made mandatory for booking appointments at all Passport Seva Kendras/Passport Offices.
Online Payment can be made using any one of the following modes:
Credit/Debit Card (MasterCard and Visa)
SBI Bank Challan
7. Click the “Print Application Receipt” link to print the application receipt containing Application Reference Number (ARN)/Appointment Number.
Note: Carrying a printout of Application Receipt is no longer required. An SMS with your appointment details is also accepted as proof of appointment during your visit to the Passport Office.
8. Visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/Regional Passport Office (RPO) where appointment has been booked, along with original documents.

2. Can we apply passport from different state?

Yes, you can apply for the issue of a passport to you in India irrespective of the place where you were born and from where your birth certificate has been issued. The only thing to be seen is that you can apply for the I issuance of the same at the place where you live at the time of applying for the same.

3. What are the various passport services and which form has to be filled in?

The various passport services are:
1. Issue of Fresh Passport: You can apply for a fresh passport if applying for the first time.
2. Re-issue of Passport: You can apply for re-issue of passport if you want another passport in lieu of an existing passport for any of the following reasons:
Change in existing personal particulars.
Validity expired within 3 years/ Due to expire.
Validity expired more than 3 years ago.
Exhaustion of pages.
Damaged passport.
Lost passport.
While applying under Fresh Issuance category – please make sure you never held a Passport of the applied category (i.e. Ordinary Passport, Diplomatic Passport or Official Passport) in the past.
For instance, if you ever held an Ordinary passport (Deep Blue colour) in the past but never held any Diplomatic (maroon colour) or Official (white colour) passport – you need to apply under Reissue category if applying for an Ordinary Passport while choose the Fresh category if applying for a Diplomatic or Official passport. Similarly, if you have/held a Diplomatic (or Official) Passport but do not have/held an Ordinary Passport – you need to apply for Ordinary Passport under Fresh category while choosing the Reissue category if applying for Diplomatic (or Official) passport.

4. What types of passports are issued in India?

Following three types of passports are issued in India:

1. Ordinary Passport: An ordinary passport has blue cover, and consists of 36 or 60 pages. It is valid for 10 years from the date of issue and can be renewed for another 10 years. An Indian citizen can use this passport for an ordinary vacation or business travel.
2. Diplomatic Passport: Has maroon cover; Issued to designated members of the national government, judiciary, statutory authorities, diplomats, official public couriers, and any other person specifically authorized by the Govt
3. Official Passport: Has grey cover; Issued to designated Non-gazetted govt servants or any other person specifically authorized by the Govt deputed abroad on government business

5. What is the definition of minor for issue of passport?

Applicants less than 18 years of age are considered as minor for issuance of passport.

6. I have a one-month old baby? Does the baby require a separate passport or his/her name can be endorsed in one of the parents passport?

Endorsement of child’s name in parent’s passports is not allowed anymore. As per the amended instructions, a minor should have a separate passport.

Only Government/Public Sector/Statutory body employees need to submit their Identity Certificate. Employees of a private company are not required to submit Identity Certificate while applying for a passport.

10. Do I need to provide original documents or will certified copies or extract be enough?

Applicants are required to attach self -attested photocopies of all the required documents with the application form. Original documents must be produced at the counter; which will be returned after verification.

9. What are the various passport services and which form has to be filled in?

The various passport services are:
1. Issue of Fresh Passport: You can apply for a fresh passport if applying for the first time.

Pages in the existing passport booklet have exhausted
Passport booklet is lost
Passport booklet is damaged. The booklet may be damaged beyond recognition or damaged but recognizable (i.e. Passport number is readable, the name is legible and photograph is intact

12. If a government employee wants to apply for major change in name in passport, is advertisement/declaration/announcement in a leading newspaper required to be submitted?

If the Government/Public Sector/Statutory body employee wants to go for a major change in name, then he/she has to submit the following additional documents:
1. Gazette Notification changing the name in the applicant’s department.
2. Fresh ID Certificate in the changed name.
Hence, advertisement/declaration/announcement in the leading newspaper is not required

13. Is it mandatory to submit Birth Certificate for applicants who are born on or after 26.01.1989?

No, You can submit the one of the following documents:
Birth Certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths or the Municipal Corporation or any other prescribed authority, whosoever has been empowered under the Registration of Birth and Deaths Act, 1969 to register the birth of a child born in India.
Transfer/School leaving/Matriculation Certificate issued by the school last attended/recognised educational board having the date of birth of the applicant.
PAN Card issued by the Income Tax Department has the date of birth of the applicant.
Aadhaar Card/E-Aadhaar having the date of birth of the applicant
Copy of an extract of the service record of the applicant (only in respect of Government servants) or the Pay Pension Order (in respect of retired Government Servants), duly attested/certified by the officer/in-charge of the Administration of the concerned Ministry/Department of the applicant, having his date of birth.
Driving licence issued by the Transport Department of the concerned State Government, having the date of birth of the applicant.
Election Photo Identity Card issued by the Election Commission of India containing the date of birth of the applicant.
Policy Bond issued by Public Life Insurance Corporations/Companies containing the date of birth of the holder of the insurance policy.

14. I want to apply for a passport. I have changed my address last month. What documents should I submit along with the application form?

You need to submit the following documents:
Old passport in original with self-attested photocopy of its first two and last two pages, including ECR/Non-ECR page (previously ECNR), the page of observation (if any) made by Passport Issuing Authority and validity extension page, if any, in respect of short validity passport
Proof of present address

15. I am a self employed person and have recently shifted to Bangalore from Delhi. I want to apply for a passport on Tatkaal basis, but I don't have any address proof. What should I do?

It is mandatory to submit proof of address to apply for a passport. For Proof of Address, attach one of the following documents:
Water/Telephone (landline or post paid mobile bill)/Electricity bill/Statement of running bank account (Scheduled Commercial bank excluding Regional Rural banks and local area banks)/Income Tax Assessment Order/Election Commission Photo Id card/Gas connection bill/Certificate from Employer of reputed and widely known companies on letter head
Spouse’s passport copy (First and last page including family details), (provided the applicant’s present address matches the address mentioned in the spouse’s passport)

16. I have printed my online form and have found a mistake. How can I correct it?

At the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/ Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) please ask the Citizen Service Executive (CSE) to make the required changes in the application form.

17. What is the validity of fee?

Payment will be valid for one year from the date payment has been made. If you have booked an appointment then the validity of fee will be one year from first appointment date.

23. How much time does it take to get passport?

While the standard timeline for receiving the normal passport is 30 days from the date of submitting the application, typically it takes two to three weeks to get a fresh passport or get your passport renewed. If applying for Tatkal, you can get a passport within one to three days

22. Is it necessary to change name in passport after marriage?

Change in the name is not compulsory after marriage. This is sufficient to show your marital status and the name of your spouse.

21. Is a Verification Certificate required from a Gazetted Officer to get a passport under the Tatkaal Scheme?

No. A Verification Certificate is not required from a Gazetted Officer to get a passport under the Tatkaal Scheme.

20. What is the procedure to apply for duplicate passport in case of lost or damaged passport?

To apply for duplicate passport in case of lost or damaged passport, you need to apply for “Re-issue” of passport.

19. What can I do if I have lost my passport and have to travel to India urgently due to an emergency like serious illness or death in the family?

If you have lost your passport during traveling, then you can come to India on the basis of “Emergency Certificate”. For the issuance of “Emergency Certificate”, you need to contact the respective mission/post of that country.

18. Can I change the scheduled date of appointment once the payment is done through online?

Once an appointment at Passport Seva Kendra is confirmed, it can be rescheduled only two times within a year of the first appointment date.
